HEY DUDES SUP this is Laserdragon/Darcy/Lady Sometimes/Mia Fey Sometimes/Aeris Sometimes
ANYWAY BASICALLY AFTER HRMING AND HAAHING SINCE THIS END OF SABRA I am certain that I want an RP starting up about when EC is wrapping up.
I kinda wanted to see who is interested in what so this isn't a "hey everyone vote on what game I should make" so much as "what are people interested in"
NEITHER OF THESE GAMES ARE SABRA CLONES
Meaning:
No systemic memory loss
No mod-run team sorting
No NPCs asking you to save their world
No NPCs running marathon RP session events where you gotta be around for six hours on X day (or at least none that I'd be running :'D)
Little to no overarching plot/mystery/quest that everyone is working together for (though one has the POSSIBILITY and in fact will encourage player-run plots, and the other has six-month cycles of competition)
But here's what they both are, basically, conceptually:
Option 1 is Wandering Stars basically a little game that me and a few other players tried to launch about 18 months ago. You can check out what little went down here. GONNA TRY TO DO IT AGAIN MAYBE!
The concept is pretty simple. You're in a big empty-ass space. At the beginning there is just one small planet (think about a kilometer in diameter) and a big stoked sun and a crazy neurotic moon. As more player get there the space is going to expand and you can have all kinds of little planets that players design. You can hop from planet to planet to hang out with folks or enjoy just about whatever dumb shit people want to put in. We'd encourage player-run plots of the old CFUD model (generally effects/powers/enemies from canon). There will also be a CRY WOLF planet at some point for good, old-fashion Cry Wolf games /o/
Also everyone can get from planet to planet by taming a space manatee, a space squid, or a space raptor. (We do not encourage trying to tame a space raptor, you crazy motherfucker).
This game will allow BASICALLY ANYTHING APPED. Canon, AU, OC, PG, multiples. At the moment I plan no character limits nor activity.
PROS: light-hearted, easy to app/drop/derp around. fun, player-driven setting, built in mechanics to HAVE heavy plots, but also built-in mechanics to ignore heavy plots and have easy excuses to still be playing and just not notice it /o/
CONS: there won't be a lot driving characters. don't expect big plot twists or goals of any sort. THIS GAME IS FOR HERPING AND DERPING.
Other option is SHOUNEN GAME which I guess let's call Tree of Kings as a placeholder, though I'm not sold on the name yet.
This one I think is pretty different than a lot of games offered!
BASICALLY YOU GOT THIS TREE, and it is ~*~ outside of space and time ~*~ by which we mean it's hanging out in a generic 90s anime world. Every 100 years it blooms, and has the ability to grow one fruit, and fruit that will GRANT YOU THE POWER TO MAKE YOUR WILL REALITY. And this can, well, it can basically be anything! The amount of power granted depends on your goals and how hard you fight! Do you want to SEAL AWAY THE DARKNESS!!1! Sure. Need to colonize a planet and put your dead species there? Can be done! Do you want to make the absolute perfect cheese cake in order to save your mom's bakers? ENOUGH PUNCHING CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
The only way to make sure the tree goes from flowers to fruit is to have LOTS OF SHOUNEN BATTLING, because without that, the flowers will just wilt and fall off. So really, when you punch someone, you are doing EVERYONE a favor by helping the tree bear fruit.
So, teams of characters are invited to the game and must accept and must choose to be there and compete! You need to app as a team with pre-exiting CR who would all be willing to work towards achieving your will together.
Game cycles take 6 months (though the first one I may have run 3-4 months just so that I can try all kinds of dumb things to figure out what FORM of competition works best. I want events that are not exactly like Sabra/Aather/EC games :c)
At the end of the cycles there will be at least one winner team. (Again, a lot of things are going to have to be tweaked through the game.)
OTHER COOL THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME is that it will has a class/element system. So you app your character as a specific title. Element tells you what KIND of powers you get, class tells you how you get to use them, and how your powers interact with the other members of the team.
It's going to encourage a whole lot of PVP and slightly-longer-than-Game-type-events.
This game is built for Fuck Yeah and for more Fuck Yeah. You can app PG, AU, OCs or canon (though we prefer that you make at least a slight AU from canon). You must also have at least three members of your team in order to app. More people can be added to an existing team, if they have a pre-existing connection, but you need at least three characters with pre-existing CR in order to app.
As said above, there is no random team sorting. You need to be a team and already give a crap about each other and be of a mind to punch people to get what your team wants.
This is a game I've been thinking about on and off for... a long time now 8|a
PRO: offers something I don't think a lot of games do, cycle-system gives you a definite length of time to app for and know that you will get your character arc in, gives lots of powers to non-powered characters for MAXIMUM RAD, ability to play post-game in a structured environment with goals that can be accomplished, shouneeenn gaem, i liek tha punchin, all characters get perfectly spherical gems added to their outfits, Leslie Knope would have the title King, everyone gets to play tigerpolo regularly, oh right here is the main NPC for the first cycle, lots of cool drop options BESIDES Bad End if you don't want to stick out the whole cycle :3c, players get to put their own teams together
CON: everyone still seems super stoked on the Sabra/Aather model. Lots and lots of moving parts means mistakes will be made, and I'll really need players to be cool and patient while we iron out kinks. Some teams being winners means that other teams will not win. Your character must enter willingly, stay willingly and compete willingly, so not all characters will be suited for the game, players need to put their own teams together
SO YES DO EITHER OR BOTH OF THSE GAMES APPEAL TO YOU? WHICH MORE? ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM? 8|a

I note this since I tend to lone canon warrior it up.
Also, could the non-winning teams compete in the next 'round' or is it 'everyone goes home every six months'?
I do like giving characters new powers; it's one reason things like 'everyone is BAMFed to *** World' amuse me: you can do things like wonder what powers suit the character best and how they fit.

I mean I personally also tend to play lone canon warriors as often as not, so I do feel you there, but the idea of "teams that already care about each other working together" is kind of the whole point there.
And yes, you are welcome to app again to the next round. And since this realm is ~outside of time~ it can be years or just minutes from one round to the next by a player's perspective.
FUCK YEAH EVERYONE GETS POWERS I would personally be hoping that lots of dramas and comedy series get apped for the lulz 8Dvb

So a nondeath shounen-y mortal kombat. Do characters stay at this tournament?

Though how would death factor into shounen game? Is it something to be avoided or something to be expected? Or would it be more classically shounen in that people can survive anything?

SO HERE'S MY THOUGHTS AT THE MOMENT is that you can't actually be killed, only expelled from the world. Maybe you have some kind of charm/soul gem/totem other MacGuffin holding you there. So your body can get fucked up but lol that's largely psychological. The only "death" as in "gone and not here anymore" is simply going hope. Oops well done you loser.

I haven't looked at that doc in forever I wonder if it should be revamped with latent experience and ideas :|a

SO I DON'T ENJOY RPING FIGHTS UNLESS THERE IS A RELATIVELY UNBAISED WAY TO DETERMINE WHO WINS. Because that whole LOLO WELL MY CHARACTER CAN BLOW UP A PLANET/WELL MY CHARACTER CAN PROTECT A PLANET conundrum is just tiring, and in an environment where there is some degree of ooc competition (some people winning means some people losing) I would be less inclined to not care about the outcome which is usually how I deal with IC faitos.
So, I know you are giving people new powers for the game!
A) Does that mean they will be losing their own powers?
B) Will there be some way to determine who wins ICly without OOC debates on who is stronger or why strategy x would totally kill you.

B) That's one of the things I will want to experiment with, play with versions that have loser and tighter rules. Making up a complete and coherent stats based system soooounds super tedious and probably won't work on LJRP and frankly if I wanted to do that I would steal rules from an existing game anyway. So I guess "no" in the sense that 'no we will not have explicity HP and be rolling dice" but rather I'm hoping that the rules of the world will be constructed in such a way that there's 1) some kinda rules to point to and 2) cool shit to do even when you lose 3) has rules that focus on how powers interact with each otherrrrr?
I mean basically, frankly, this is going to be messy and sticky and a WIP. I don't know how much micromanaging will be necessary until we stick it in a box and shake it for a while.
So I guess to both your questions the answers are "lol kinda I guess :F" I hope this still helps though!

If anything I would suggest a more complex rock-paper-scissors arrangement like Queen always beats King unless King is limit breaking. But Fire always beats Ice, etc etc. Sort of simplified pokemon =|a
UH ONE THING YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK INTO. I read an article about this tabletop RPG called Mouseguard where people determine their character's beliefs/personality/etc at the start of the game and then instead of getting EXP they get certain awards based on whether or not they adhered to their character. You could possibly do something similar as a way to determine winners or still award losers or allow teams to gain powerups or sth =|a
The article was here if you are curious =|a
AS IT IS i am very very interested in the creation of the game, because I would like to see more people getting dynamic with what a game can be! I don't know if I would actually plan in it (or if I apped I wouldn't immediately drop cuz that is a thing I do).
If wanderstars got off the ground I would probably app because I need more places to play fate AUs and I know AJ is with me on that. But I'm not sure I have it in me to be one of the STARTING CHARACTERS trying to get the game moving at a regular pace which is why i say "if it gets off the ground".

I was already kinda toying with the idea of something pokemon-like with the way the classes/characters interact but I think I would need SEVERAL super detail-oriented people working with me. I'm just not sure that's something I can tackle on my own, at least not for the first round.
BUT YES AS USUAL this is all super helpful.

Second idea SOUNDS cool but I hate... fight threads... because of problems someone already talked about. I'm not into power levels (yet I play form and read shounen manga??? I hate that shit and skim it like nobody's business though).
I'm intrigued by both but I'd just hang out on the sidelines and see how it went for a bit.

There could also be thinks like "OH LOOK IT'S AIR GEAR WEEK. EVERYONE GETS ROCKET SKATES AND STICKERS HAVE FUN DEFACING EVERYONE ELSE'S TOWERS /o/" shit like that.

I FEEL LIKE I AM TALKING MYSELF IN A CIRCLE BUT BASICALLY:
Yes there will be some PVP
PVP will have more structure to it which hopefully will make for more funness
There will also be stuff that isn't PVP which will also be fun due to stupid power system
yes there OK I think I said words
